Biography

1965

Kash's family took up residence in Richmond, British Columbia. This would be the start of a lifelong commitment and love for the city.

1979-2009

Kash began his policing career in 1979 after graduating top of his class from the British Columbia Police Academy, joining the Vancouver Police Department as a patrol officer. Early on, he gained recognition for his work on high-profile arrests and investigations, earning Vancouver Police Officer of the Year in 1989. He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming corporal in 1992, sergeant in 1994, and inspector in 2000, eventually leading the vice and drug units and overseeing major gang enforcement initiatives, including the Indo‑Canadian gang task force. Known for his hands-on approach and focus on data-driven policing, he implemented COMPSTAT crime tracking and promoted inter-agency collaboration. In 2007, he became the first Indo‑Canadian chief constable in Canada when he was appointed to lead the West Vancouver Police Department. Heed resigned in 2009 to pursue a career in provincial politics, ending a 30-year career marked by leadership in law enforcement and community-focused policing.

2009

Kash ran for the BC Liberal Party in Vancouver-Fraserview, winning the riding for the 39th General Assembly as well as being appointed as Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

2022

Kash ran a successful bid for a seat on the Richmond City Council, under the slate of Richmond Rise. He has since been involved in several motions relevant to his platform for government transparency, holding accountability, and keeping the public safe.
